Manneti Sherron Art Museum’s aluminum square tube canopy

The museum’s design highlights a variety of artistic functions that reflect the avant-garde art of the university, where it has been developed like Wayne Thiebaud, Wayne Tiepport, Robert Arneson, Robert Arnesen, and William T. Wiley. Lee is such a genius. The museum features an open formal classroom and art studio in the lobby, a lifestyle experience that combines teaching, production and interaction with art. The smooth surface of the corrugated surface can be used as an outdoor screen and form a courtyard with a glass wall or as an outdoor sculpture gallery.

The most distinctive feature of the building is its magnificent canopy, which has become an icon of the museum. We created a wave shape in the design, like a quilt, and installed aluminum beams over the entire site and above the building. This canopy echoes the university’s rich natural landscape and agricultural environment, especially the shape of the grid in the farmland. As a visual signal, it also announced that the museum is a new social node and has become a symbol of the entire university.

Under the canopy, various different, transparent spatial characteristics highlight the museum’s popular attitude. And it is inadvertently on the edge of the campus, this unique canopy building attracts many visitors. In the public square, the subtle interaction between light and shadow has greatly diminished the boundaries between citizens and institutions. Indoors, a hall with a glass curtain wall invites people to interact, at the intersection of an area that can be viewed, studied and produced. These interconnected internal and external spaces create informal opportunities for experiential art and support the museum’s mission and make all visitors a student.
