The upgrading of the facade of the building is the focus of the renovation project of Shanghai Huada Science and Technology Park. The project has been idle since its completion in 2012 until the beginning of 2014. The new door and window curtain wall system, unused components and untimely design language are difficult to maintain economically and operably.
Finally, the designer chose to use the punched aluminum sheet as the core element of the design, and formed a complete and unified double skin structure by quantifying the body of the sheet material. This approach not only retains the original curtain wall windows and doors system to the utmost extent, but also brings excellent integrity and identity to the project. The detail processing of the skin is mainly embodied on the LED light trough with longitudinal depth, and even in the daytime state, these irregularities of different shapes form a very rich light and shadow change on the whole façade. The size and density of the aluminum plate holes have also been carefully considered: to ensure that the user in the room still has clear and unobstructed line-of-sight conditions for the external environment at a position close to the curtain wall.
